Seven Springs, Sunday

Sundays riding at seven springs on the free riding day.

So on Sunday i got up and drove to Seven Springs and when i was coming up through Uniontown PA i could see that it was pouring the rain in that direction. Sure enough when i arrived it was a muddy mess. The lift style is unique, i get to carry my bike with me. I liked that. The first trail i came down was 007 to lower EC. Man that was a rush.. jumps, berms, jumps, lil nasty area with rock gardens and steep lines feeding into them and them all the trails finish on two big table tops. (20 ft and 25 ft ish). Those two jumps is where all the carnage took place.

The crowd was different. Lots of people that had no idea what they were doing. There were cross country riders, people on walmart bikes, and people on 1980's no suspension bikes with v brakes. These people just didn't know what they were up against. Wouldn't you know it, all the people that got seriously hurt, and there were a good bit of them, were xc riders. Its really not that hard to roll up a lip and ride across the tabletop... I definately hope to see that everyone recovers fast though so they can ride more. Just learn to ride within your limits.

The thing I hated most was the riders with no trail ettiquette. You move for faster riders. Apparently thats too tough of a concept. I can't say how many times i got stuck behind people and I would yell RIDER! RIDER! and they just kept moving alone all slow. And the second you tried to pass them they would cut you off... The other thing is people just stopped and stood on the trail. I crashed in the mud several times because of the idiots just standing in the trail and in my attempt to stop, crash.

I was not totally bummed out by all that. It was good to see people trying our beloved sport of downhill and freeriding.

More about the trails though. They got it going on up there. Here by the end of the year they wil lhave two dh race trails on the north face (1300 vert ft). Its fun to jus haul down the wide open trails and trick and style all the airs on the way down.. There is def no shortage of them.

Everyone definately needs to come up and rip at that place.

Peace everyone,

Nathan
